Internationalization is one of SCC’s most important strategies. Under major national strategies, with foreign-related talents training as the focus, faculty internationalization as the emphasis, foreign-related training as the basis and international curriculum construction as an important way, Shanghai Customs College (SCC) has exported while bringing in foreign resources, and improved the management mechanism of internationalized school running, to boost first-class discipline building and open up a road of internationalized school running characteristic of customs and the college. SCC started foreign-related training early in the 1990s and became an Asia-Pacific training center of the World Customs Organization (WCO) in 2004. By late 2018, SCC had organized 241 foreign-related training sessions participated by 6,071 customs officers and 37 ministerial officials from some 140 countries and regions. On this basis, SCC will strive to become "an outstanding Asia-Pacific customs training center".
With the goal of "broadening students' international horizon and building a top talents exchange platform", SCC encourages students to carry out international academic research on customs matters. By late 2018, SCC had sent nearly 100 students to 9 countries for international academic conferences on customs, overseas practices, customs fellowship programs and other activities.
SCC has implemented the "overseas study" plan. By the end of 2018, SCC had sent over 100 teaching and administrative staff members to 32 countries and regions for academic visits, teaching, international academic conferences and fellowship programs, and geared teachers to international advanced teaching and research practices, progressively building a faculty team with international dialogue ability and international academic influence.
SCC has introduced outstanding teaching resources from international customs agencies, multinational enterprises, international academic research institutions and foreign embassies in China. By late 2018, SCC had invited 52 customs experts and scholars from over 10 countries to give English lessons and lectures on hot and knotty issues of international customs. Based on the teaching methods and management models of foreign customs universities and agencies, SCC has progressively established an international faculty team with customs characteristics.
SCC has built an international cooperation network with customs characteristics. By the end of 2018, SCC had received nearly 100 high-level delegations from over 30 countries and regions, established friendly cooperation relations with them and carried out education cooperation programs with customs organizations and universities in these countries. By late 2018, SCC had signed MOUs or curriculum agreements with University of Munster, Charles Sturt University, the North-West Institute of Management of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, Rotterdam School of Management of Erasmus University, Fontys University of Applied Sciences, Augusta University and Konkuk University. These MOUs and agreements cover student exchanges, faculty exchanges, exchange visits of leaders, academic exchanges, research cooperation, distance education and diploma programs for teaching and administrative staff.、
